Ice Caves Part Deux

Here are some pics from inside the caves. Pretty cool, eh? This is the first time in years that ice caves have formed local to McMurdo. We had fun sliding around inside and of course goofing around a bit. Luckily Geoff's tongue did not stick to the ice. He is all good.

All of these photos are courtesy of Cory... Thanks Cory! We had a wonderful time

Ice Caves Part 1

Recently Geoff and I were lucky enough to enjoy a trip to some Ice Caves that are not too far away from McMurdo. What made it even luckier of a trip is that we got to ride there in a Challenger. A comfy ride, plus Geoff got to drive. Very sweet deal. Our friend Cory (who is in the flag pic with us) works in the department that maintains the ice roads.... so he helped work out this trip for us.
Here are some pics from outside the caves. Geoff, Cory and I with the Antarctic & U.S. flag... and us with our sweet ride.

Pax Delta

This is a picture of a Pax (Passenger) Delta. It is a vehicle used in McMurdo to transport people to different places on the ice. An example would be to and from the Ice Runways. The passengers enter through the back door of the vehicle. It is quite the bumpy ride... and not my idea of a fun time. If you are prone to motion sickness you probably wouldn't enjoy it either.

C-17 ~ First Class

I just received this picture of some friends (Christine and Rich) and I on our way down to the Ice. As you can probably tell we are sporting the new Winter accessory... neon green ear plugs. That's my modeling face... No wonder the agencies aren't knocking down my door.

We are riding in a C-17. A big improvement from the days when we were packed in a C-141. Sitting shoulder to shoulder in web seats. Ugh! I don't miss it.

Australian Medevac

There was a recent Medical Evacuation (Medevac) at the Australian Antarctic Station. I have added a link to the National Science Foundations website so you could read more about this interesting event. It took the assistance of many people and countries to make this happen.

Probably didn't think this many people were down here, did ya?
