ATO Party

This past weekend my department (ATO) had it's annual beginning of the season party. It is a great time for all of us to socialize and meet the new folks. There was dancing, mexican food and lots of chatting. I have included a few pictures of myself and some friends. As for pics of Geoff... there aren't any really.... because he was hanging out by the video games. Geoff and some friends were too into playing the "classic" arcade game Galaga.
Side Note: Amy and I are practicing are outdoor safety skills in the pic where my hands are in her armpits. For those of you who don't know... it is a great way to warm yourself up. It was a little chilly in the building.

Overnight Stay

There is always a first time for everything. Yesterday was the first time a C-17 had to stay the night here at McMurdo. With only 3 engines in flying condition the decision to stay seems like the obvious choice, but it did take hours and hours for the crew to have that choice finalized. My boss Pete, friend Amy (who you may remember from the bike trip blog) and Geoff had to wait and wait out at the runway until the decision was made. Which made for a very long day for the 3 of them.

This unusual event has made for quite the buzz around town. McMurdo residents love some good gossip.

The sad news is the plane should be here for a few days. Which hinders the outgoing mail.... which in turn is going to mean that some ballots that were int he outgoing mail are NOT going to make it back to the US before the absentee ballot deadline. Sad news.

Here is a picture of some of my latest and greatest jewels I have made. My friend and I are going to have a little jewelry show this weekend. This is my poster for the event.

On Ice

We are back on that icy, white continent, again. Enjoying the beginning of a.... New season. New coworkers. New dorm room. Seeing old friends again and missing the ones that didn't come down this year.

I have attached a picture of Geoff working a C-17 flight . He is the one in the blue hat. I was actually out at this flight too, but am hiding in the plane because it was quite cold. As part of our training as Load Planners one task that we are doing this year is going out to the runway and watching the Cargo teams download and upload the pallets off the planes. The cargo shown in this picture is called a Pallet train. There are 3 pallets attached in this picture carrying larger cargo that doesn't fit on a single pallet.

I hope all is well with everyone. I will try to be a good blogger, but as you all know I do tend to slack at times. I will apologize in advance.
